Profile

Hi, my name is Alicia Melendy.  I was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida.  I graduated from the University of North Florida with a degree in Psychology.  I was a substance abuse counselor for two years when I discovered it was not my passion.  I felt I was being led to teach.  So I decided to go back to school to acquire the necessary credentials in order to teach.  I have been a teacher of kindergarten and first grade as well as a mix of the two grades for five years.

I believe each child is unique and have their own way of learning.  Therefore, I do my best to teach to the individual child.  I try to meet each child where they are academically and socially.  I also believe in expecting the unexpected out of every child and strive to get them to push themselves beyond what they believe they are capable of in every way.  I am constantly amazed at how much I teach my classes and how much they teach me.  It is a continuous cycle of learning and I am grateful to be a teacher!
