Childhood and adolescence are full of transitions and growth. The guidance department at SSIS is here to help support our students during these times, whether exciting or challenging. Our school serves children in VPK-Grade 8. We have a range of services, including:

Individual counseling

Small group counseling

Classroom guidance lessons

Parent consultation

Filial therapy parent training

Prevention

Community referrals

Wellness speakers & trainings

Mentoring/ Peer helping

School-based play therapy

Sand play

Peer mediation and conflict resolution

At SSIS, we use a developmental school counseling program. This includes the premise that all students should have access to its services.

Fitting within the developmental school counseling program is a child-centered counseling perspective, where the counselor understands that younger children are not always able to communicate their thoughts and feelings effectively using words. In this case, the counselor relies on play, using toys and play as a form of communication. In this process, the counselor helps children to understand and identify feelings, connect those feelings to behavior, and find meaning in life circumstances.

Truly wonderful the mind of a child is.
